After making a blockbuster trade with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers were determined to bring in a potential franchise quarterback and had no shortage of options to choose from.
Ultimately, after vetting all the top-tier quarterbacks in last year’s draft class, the team chose to go with Bryce Young out of the University of Alabama, which seemed to be a smart move at the time as he was the consensus top prospect at the position.
Even though Young may still have a bright future ahead in the NFL, the Crimson Tide product’s first season with the Panthers was nothing short of a disaster, as Carolina turned out to be one of the worst teams in the league during the 2023 campaign.
After winning only two games last year, the Panthers hope to get back on track this year, which prompted them to trade for wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who has nothing but high praise and high hopes for a more confident Young, via Carolina Blitz.
“He’s making his reads quicker,” Johnson said. “Just having more receivers out there that can win gives him more confidence to play harder and smarter.”

Along with acquiring Johnson in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Panthers brought in a promising young rookie wide receiver, with the team selecting Xavier Legette out of the University of South Carolina at No. 32 overall in the draft.
Legette will likely be a Week 1 starter, joining Johnson and veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen, which might prove to be a solid combination of wideouts at Young’s disposal next season.
